  • Harmer Architecture is currently working with Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) on designing the new Stage 3 Mausoleum proposed for Werribee Cemetery.

The new mausoleum will link with the existing chapel mausoleum, and mausoleum along Railway Avenue. The link will create a new outdoor landscaped space, featuring a paved area referencing the piazza of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

The Piazza will include a statue as a centre point, with granite and cobble stone paving to form a pattern similar to St Peter’s Basilica. Columbarium niche walls will also be included in the new landscaped Piazza area.

The mausoleum comprises garden crypts facing the cemetery to the north, embracing plentiful daylight and sun. To the south, the weather protected gallery features views to the new Piazza, and integrated seating.

The glass wall facing the Piazza will feature a pattern of black and white aluminium window frames which will form a series of white crosses along the entire length of the wall. The external face of the building on the north side and at each end will feature a gold anodised aluminium curtain, which will be perforated below ceiling level to provide sun, glare and wind protection.

The west end of the new mausoleum will feature a 6-metre-high Byzantine image of Jesus Christ to be created with coloured mosaic tiles.
