Education Practice Lab

Harmer Architecture worked with the Infrastructure and Operations Group, Asset Transformation of La Trobe University and the School of Education in designing The Education Practice Lab (EPL), located in the Charles Borchardt Library on the Bundoora Campus.

The School of Education at La Trobe University has recently created a first in the research into and the practice of, learning and teaching, in a specially crafted suite of interior spaces designed by Harmer Architecture.

The EPL Lab is equipped with enhanced AV technology and flexible furniture layouts for primary, secondary and tertiary level students. Teaching and learning practices can be viewed in action, from an adjacent observation room fitted with one way glass and the proceedings can be beamed out to schools and other institutions, or to within the university to its other campuses. The EPL spaces will foster research into how people teach and how students learn, and enhance learning outcomes for La Trobe students studying for their degrees in Education. The Lab will also create strong connections between the university and schools, and hopefully, encourage young school students to take up the vital profession of teaching in the future.

Construction was completed in late 2025.
