This project was commissioned by the Department of Human Services. The brief required a foyer upgrade of one of the public housing high rise towers in the Atherton Gardens Estate in Fitzroy.
Our aim was to create a new more welcoming place for residents to come and go with more space and natural light. We also wanted to create places to sit inside and outside towards the street for people to wait or chat with other residents and passers by. The new foyer links the tower with the busy street life of Brunswick Street and creates a new public space for residents in front of the building entry.
The foyer space provides visual links between the street and the extensive landscaped areas within the estate.
