about us

Harmer Architecture is a Melbourne based  architectural design practice. The primary interest of the practice is designing public spaces. Our office has extensive capability in the design of a wide range of public facilities that include churches, theatres, workplace environments, teaching and learning environments and spaces for arts and culture.

Harmer Architecture has completed a number of projects for the universities of Victoria, including The Australian Catholic, Melbourne, Monash, LaTrobe and Victoria Universities.

Harmer Architecture is also highly regarded in the world of performing arts and have created three major venues in regional Victoria and Melbourne at Wangaratta, Sale and Preston, working in association with Arts Victoria and local government.

The practice has completed over twenty-five church projects for the Uniting, Anglican and Catholic Churches, a number of which have involved working in association with Heritage Victoria.

We believe that high calibre design has the power to enhance and enrich people’s lives.

Meet The Team

Philip Harmer is principal of Harmer Architecture and Philip founded the practice in 1981. Philip is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and also holds a CASA aircraft Private Pilots License.

Practice associates Ken Seakins and Andrew Briant joined Harmer Architecture in 1985 and associate Holly Wort joined the practice in 2007.

The director and associates, Ken and Andrew have significant experience working together as a design team. This depth of experience and continuity is of particular benefit to clients in the contract administration phase of a project. This continuity of personnel is also rare in the architecture community in Melbourne.

Harmer Architecture continues to mentor and teach students of architecture in the studio, and many of them return to join the Harmer team as graduates of architecture.

The Harmer alumni numbers over 70 architects whose experience at the studio has helped form the basis of their professional careers in Architecture.
