Maryborough Student ACCOMMODATION
Harmer Architecture has been commissioned by Maryborough District Health Service and Victorian Health and Human Services to design new Student Accommodation on the hospital site in Nightingale Street, Maryborough.
This Project is the first stage of a major redevelopment of this regional hospital. The student accommodation project will provide 16 short-term and 4 long-term accommodation places for clinical students across multiple disciplines.
The goal of this project is to enhance learning outcomes for students by enabling stronger connections with the hospital, create an improved environment for teaching and training and facilitate more social interaction between students as well as enabling mentoring and guidance from hospital staff.
The MDHS want to add social capital to the Maryborough Community, and wish to be more than just a service provider. The student Accommodation project will therefore add significant value to the community by helping enhance the pathway for students from secondary to tertiary education.
The Student Accommodation Project will also enhance the recent COIL initiatives which focus on training within the hospital environment.
Our primary design goal is to create a collegiate atmosphere in the new accommodation that encourages social interaction between students and staff in the same way that university colleges create an atmosphere of camaraderie and mentoring that enhances the learning experience.
The addition of a new residential facility to the Maryborough Hospital campus will also add to the activity on site and broaden the presence of the hospital in the community as a place where students live and learn the skills of caring.
