The Victorian Attorney-General, Jill Hennessy, formally opened the new VCAT Oakleigh on Monday February the 24th, 2020.
VCAT Oakleigh is more accessible and less formal than a Criminal Court, and has spaces that are used for private discussions, mediations and hearings. People who visit VCAT Oakleigh go to resolve civil issues, primarily to do with consumer disputes, renting and guardianship.
One of the Hearing Rooms features Koori artwork and artefacts and provision for victims of family violence has been made in the layout, design and technology.
The Harmer Architecture project team developed a detailed “kit of parts” design brief that will be used for all of the new VCAT Venues.
The Harmer design at the Oakleigh Venue successfully creates a non-intimidating community friendly interior that fosters the resolution of disputes through conciliation and mediation.
